Dave Ja Vu: Anew

Thanks For This Thankfulness
Part Four

Guts (Or Moreso People WITH Them). Guts to stand up for what you believe in or guts to do the things no one else has the courage or ability to do. There seems to be a rise in people taking a stand for or against things that really matter to them lately, and I think it's amazing. If I had to make a short list of people I'm particularly fond of for having that quality, I'd put Al Gore (and I never thought I'd say that); Barrack Obama; Uncle Jake, Ace Werner, Randy Matheny and all the troops; and television writers at the top of the list. And I think that list is short because my brain hurts and I can't think of many of the other folks who've stood up this past year and simply said: "we're ready to affect positive change." I can't think right now, which is frustrating, because there are so many others. I guess you'll just have to tell me who I'm missing in the comments.

Limiting our television watching. I called Charter the other day with Amy's blessing to announce to them that we would like our cable to be switched OFF as soon as the month we've paid for is over in its entirety. As of December 20, our home will be television-free. And we're nervously excited about it. I've talked to a lot of my friends about this concept--people who've done it themselves--and they assure me it was a positive move for their families. Thankfully, we can watch eppies of our favorite shows online: "The Office", "30 Rock", "How I Met Your Mother" but we'll do it after Jack is asleep. The one thing we're going to miss is "Mister Rogers" in the morning but only because that's when Jack and I snuggle. I'll just have to get out of bed to play with him at that time instead. And the public library and Blockbuster have a collection of really good educational DVDs, so we're covered if we have a time of need! I'm so thankful Amy's allowed me to do this. It's like a 5-day-early Christmas present and possibly the best one ev!

We haven't had tele in this house for over a year now. You can catch the news online, and as youallready stated, episodes. We now spend more time as a family doing productive things rather than zoned out in front of the tube. (also if you ask my hubby, my house hasn't been cleaner) :)

You are my hero, Charlie! I feel encouraged and ready to do this now. Granted, I don't watch much telly, but I have a couple shows I hate to miss! Oh well! It'll be a good change once we get used to it!

When I was poor (wait I still am) but for the three years I lived in Omaha, I only had tv for about 9 months. I promise you won't even miss it - you actually will probably end up asking yourself how in the world you ever had time to watch television before.

Just wanted to say kudos! Oh and now I am a lazy piece so we have tv - laziness and tv - hand in hand I tell ya!

Aaron's been threatening to do the same thing at our house. I'm having a hard time imagining it. So . . . i'm excited to hear how you guys do. Maybe it will inspire me to also give my consent!
